Head Start is a free, developmentally appropriate preschool and early education and socialization program for income eligible children and their families’ ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Children with special needs are also eligible. Ohio Heartland CAC Head Start strives to provide an environment where children are safe and enriched. Opportunities will be provided for children to achieve appropriate educational and social development. Children are encouraged to learn and explore at their own speed in areas that interest them. The program operates according to applicable Head Start Performance Standards and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Licensing. We strive to provide an environment where children feel safe and creative explorers trying out their own ideas and thinking their own thoughts in areas that interest them.
Early Head Start: Early Head Start Center Based.
The EHS center based option is available in Bucyrus, Marion, Mt. Gilead and Mansfield for infants and toddlers ages Birth to 36 months from 8:30 AM until 3:30 PM Monday through Friday year around. The EHS center based option includes breakfast, lunch and snack with all the food being provided for the children, except for breast milk which can be provided by the mother. All diapers, wipes and pull-ups are provided for the infants and toddlers during their time in the center.
Head Start: Head Start Half-Day Option and Head Start Full Day Option
The Head Start Half Day option children attend preschool classrooms either in the morning or afternoon for 3 ½ hours a day, four days a week. Children attending the half day AM session attend preschool in the morning from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM and receive a breakfast and a lunch. Children attending the half day PM session attend preschool in the afternoon from 12:00 PM until 3:30 PM are provided a lunch and a snack. The North Main St. Center in Marion will operate from 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM and 11:30 AM until 3:00 PM. Diapers, wipes and pull-ups are provided for the preschoolers during their time in the center. The Head Start Full day option children attend preschool classrooms for 7 hours a day, four days a week for a minimum of 146 days a year. Children attending the full day option will receive breakfast, lunch and snack with all the food being provided for the children. Transportation is a possibility for Head Start children only.
Our comprehensive program provides services to our families in the areas of Family Partnership, Transition, Education, Intervention, Health and Transportation. Our 35 classrooms enroll 555 children in Head Start and 80 children in Early Head Start in the counties of Crawford, Marion, Morrow and Richland.
